Responsibilities: Do you know how a power plant orblack liquor recovery boileroperates or why a transformer has a malfunction? Can you explain high cycle fatigue, flow associated corrosion? Have you ever seen a turbo generator break down, a lube oil fire or witnessed a steam turbine fail? Would you like to?Boiler & machinery consultant engineerswill interact with FM Global clients primarily in the Chemical industry, Power Generation and Forest Products-Pulp & Paper, Mining and similar industries. Experienced engineers will use their expertise to consult with clients to protect their facilities against mechanical and electrical breakdowns, fire and many other hazards. This could include conducting in-depth risk assessments of key equipment, such as turbines, generators, large motors and transformers, black liquor recovery boilers, paper machines, Yankee dryers, pulp dryers, and digesters. As a boiler and machinery consultant engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement long-term and short-term risk improvement strategies.Additional responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate the integrity and reliability of equipment, identify hazards and deficiencies to deliver focused risk improvement solutions and reduce equipment risk
  • Utilize operating standards, data sheets and industry guides such as API, ASME, IEEE, NETA, TAPPI, BLRBAC, etc. to provide risk guidance and implement best practices
  • Prepare engineering reports, loss expectancies to support risk improvement
  • Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on Boiler & Machinery recommendations
  • Engineers will work from a home office, must be able to manage their time and work independently with minimal supervision
  • This is a field-based role and will require travel to large, complex industrial client sites to evaluate the operations and systems of the site and identify risks and hazards. Expected overnight travel is 30%-40%. Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemicalor Electrical Engineering
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience (chemical, power generation or pulp & paper, molten or mining industries is preferred)
    • Resident or willing to relocate toSan Francisco or Seattle areas
    • Ability to enter confined spaces
    • Aneagerness to learnacross a broad range of industries and types of hazards.
    • Good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
    • Independentandfocusedwithina home office environment, withstrongplanning and time management skills with minimal supervision.
    • Results driven and self-motivated are a must
    • Solid technical aptitude including diverse knowledge of engineering principles
    • Strong verbal and written English communications skills
    • Proficient in MS Office products
    • Physically able to lift 25 pounds, able to climb ladders,andexperience heights.
    • Authorization to work in the US
    • Valid driver's licenseThe hiring range for this position is $76,000 to $144,800.The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
