This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Lead
Electrical Engineer (Transmission & Distribution) for our San
Francisco, CA office . Oakland, Walnut Creek, Sacramento, San Jose
and other SF Bay Area locations will also be considered . WSP USA
Operates with a Hybrid-Workplace Model. Be involved in projects
with our Energy Sector Team and be a part of a growing organization
that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
The successful candidate is required to work within a
multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable electrical
substations, transmission lines, and collection systems for T&D
projects, renewable and energy storage projects, industrial
facilities, data centers, O&G midstream and mining facilities.
The Lead Electrical Engineer will coordinate their design
activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful
project completion. The selected candidate will also assist the
pursuits team in preparation of estimates and project proposals.
This position is accountable to provide all design activities in
accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all
of WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental,
Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
Your Impact
Preparation of project specifications for material and equipment
purchase and installation.
Preliminary and detailed design of electrical substation facilities
including site and bus work layouts, ground grids, SCADA,
protection, and metering.
Preliminary and detailed design engineering for renewable energy
and battery storage electrical collection systems.
Preliminary and detailed design engineering for transmission and
"gen tie" lines
Act as "Engineer of Record" to oversee design process, sign and
seal electrical design drawing packages as required.
Perform and oversee electrical power systems studies using ETAP,
SKM, PSS/E, ASPEN, WinIGS, Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical and other
software programs as may be necessary to support the design and
inter-connection coordination processes.
Demonstrates competence and comprehensive knowledge concerning
Distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation tools,
math principles, predictive models, and spreadsheets.
Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that meet industry
standards, specifications, and good engineering practice with
excellent constructability.
Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good
design practice and constructability.
Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site
inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to
substation design and construction, including all completion
packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and
coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team
members.
Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that
support projects.
Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers,
contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and
cost of projects.
Mentoring and providing guidance to developing engineers within the
department.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company
funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct
and related policies and procedures.
May manage a team of WSP engineers including direct reports and
internal peers to support delivery of tasks identified above.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
7-10 years of relevant post education experience in transmission
and/or sub-station design.
P.E. Registration in California.
Knowledge of codes and standards such as IEEE, ANSI and CPUC.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting
with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an
engineering and non-engineering audience.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership
to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to
QA/QC.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to
abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment
policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific
requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Ability to travel to project sites in the US regularly (up to
25%).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
NCEES Comity Licensure.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
Compensation and Benefits:
WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical,

Expected Salary: $89,200 - $182,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description
of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith
believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the
successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills,
and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic
location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less
than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other
compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an
applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, or
federal law.
