The Position Computational Scientist 3, Cell and Tissue Genomics
The Position The Department of Cellular and Tissue Genomics (CTG)
is seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to focus on
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research. The candidate will
collaborate with a diverse group of scientists across discovery and
clinical teams to extract biological insights from diverse
multi-dimensional data sets, leveraging existing computational
workflows and developing novel ones. The ability to creatively
solve data analytic challenges, work independently to achieve
project goals, and contribute to scientific publications are
critical components of this role. ResponsibilitiesAnalysis of
next-generation sequencing data, involving novel and
state-of-the-art technologies including multi-modal single-cell
genomics, spatial transcriptomics, and high-content perturbation
screens.Leverage applied statistics, machine learning, and
exploratory data analysis to investigate data and extract
biological insights.Present analyses to cross-functional project
teams. QualificationsPhD in computational biology, bioinformatics,
computer science, statistics, or a related field. Postdoctoral
training is a plus.Demonstrated competence in a programming
language such as R or python, experience with version control
systems, and familiarity with high-performance computing
environments. Experience with applying machine learning to high
throughput datasets is a plus.Deep understanding of immunology.
Direct experience in IBD research is a plus.Intense curiosity about
the biology of disease and an eagerness to contribute to scientific
efforts focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms
underlying disease etiology.Strong publication record of biological
discovery and/or methods development as evidenced by primary
authorships in scientific journals..Strong background in immunology
is a plus. Deep understanding of computational techniques for
analyzing high-throughput genomic, transcriptomic and/or proteomic
datasets, and an interest in applying novel approaches to explore
and integrate such data.Excellent communication and data
presentation skills, including the ability to present complex
scientific results to a diverse audience. The expected salary range
for this position based on the primary location of South San
Francisco, CA is $117,600 - $218,400. Actual pay will be determined
based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other
job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus
may be available based on individual and Company performance. This
