Engineering ManagerBetterComp is a rapidly growing SaaS company
making big waves in the HR/compensation space. We are seeking an
Engineering Manager to help us in our next phase of growth.The
software engineering manager role at BetterComp is a hands-on
lead-from-the-front type engineering position. You will be
responsible for setting the bar for a team of engineers building
scalable, performant and highly usable software applications.
Staying close to the code that is being written, you will ensure
that goals for quality, supportability and extensibility are met,
and that the team continues to improve over time. Technical leaders

candidates able to work in PST (CA, OR, WA, CO, UT, NV, ID, AZ).

A self-starter with drive for
continuous learning and mastery of multiple knowledge domains, and

software architect, who can translate business problems into the
technical domain and decompose work for othersA current or recent
expert-level coder, who can make others in your image and coach
them up from junior through to to principalA good operational
manager, capable of defining and managing the parameters of optimal
service behavior, responding to issues, and continuing to improve
the operational characteristics of your service(s)Upbeat and
energetic, you get a thrill from making things work better, and
helping others do their best work -What you bring:
Recent hands-on experience in
building modern cloud-based applications (AWS, Serverless, REST /
GraphQL, React + TypeScript / Python + Django, MySQL / PostgreSQL)
with a desire to contribute codeExperience working as a tech lead
or managing a high-performance engineering team (expert
practitioner)Expertise in the tools and practices required for
continuous delivery with high qualityThe ability to decompose
complex functional requirements into well-factored technical
components that realize those capabilitiesExperience as an
lean-agile development practitioner, capable of smoothly running
work through its lifecycle to customer value5+ years experience
working in a professional engineering role, being recognized as a
technical leader -What you'll do:
Own one or more services or set of
components that deliver part of BetterComp's product offering, and
the team responsible for its development and operations (service
ownership mentality)Be responsible for the functional capabilities
and operational health of those offerings, and continuously improve
their technical characteristicsWork with business leaders and
functional owners to translate goals into the technical domain, and
guide the team in implementationLead and mentor engineers in the
design, development, testing, and delivery of high quality
software, and ensure the ongoing health of the codebase and
supporting systemsCollaborate with product and other technical
leaders to ensure that platform level objectives are met where
cross-service concerns meetEnsure that all standards and quality
measures are met, and assist in refining those standards over time
