Our people are Stantec's most valuable resource, and in joining our team you will be able to leverage your career experiences and expertise within a culture that values inclusion, celebrates shared success, and applauds ambition.Your Key ResponsibilitiesDay to day management of the utilities design team operations in CaliforniaSpearhead design utility design teams for transit & rail, highways, streets, and roadway projects to meet local, state and federal requirements.Serve as utilities design lead on large to mega transportation projectsPlanning, analysis and design of projects, scheduling staff, review of work, training and mentoring staff, project presentation, project management, fiscal management, and contract negotiationsDevelop project management plans for projects; establishes goals and objectives for unique and complex projects.Responsible for successfully establishing projects to achieve budget, schedule, and contractual obligations.Conducts and/or coordinates quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitates independent technical review projects by others.Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, interested stakeholder parties, reviewing agency personnel.Coordinates with the regulatory and third parties to seek final approval.Assists business leaders in project revenue forecasting.Performs business development/application tasks and collaborates with staff to increase project wins and develop long lasting client relationships. Routine tasks include:

  • Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals
  • Client facing for business development contact, meetings, walk-downs, and presentations
  • Scope of work documents and estimates
  • Collaboration with multiple business lines to develop opportunities
  • Quality reviewsGrowing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec's reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team.Promoting collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsAbility to spearhead all aspects of utility design (third party requirements, right-of-way needs, interface with other design disciplines, obtain third party approvals) with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellenceSound knowledge of utility industry practice and demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer serviceDemonstrated knowledge and experience with large utility companies, such as PG&EDemonstrated experience overseeing design of complex utilities for transportation projects in CaliforniaAccountable for making decisions on large projectsDemonstrated knowledge working with irrigation districts in CaliforniaDemonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environmentUnderstanding of Caltrans utility relocation proceduresUnderstanding of utility right of way deliverablesDirect experience in client management and business development is an assetCan work well in a team environment without direct supervisionPossess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasksPossess a hard-working and positive attitudeAbility to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to deliver technical presentations in public forumsPossesses excellent time-management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.Education and ExperienceBachelor's or Master's degree in any Engineering fieldMinimum 15 years related experience in utilities preferably for utility and transportation projectsDemonstrated successful experience in client service management.Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.Demonstrated successful experience in decision making, including making sound defensible business decisions; and identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving complex problems.Travel to other projects sites and other offices may be required.Registered Professional Engineer in California, preferred, or ability to obtain within one yearThis description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other's talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.
